Submission: PJCIS Identity-Matching Services

Allens Hub researchers Genna Churches, Dr Monika Zalnieriute and Hub Director Professor Lyria Bennett Moses prepared a submission to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security Review of the Identity-matching Services Bill 2019 and the Australian Passports Amendment (Identity-matching Services) Bill 2019. 

This submission covered critical issues of compliance with the rule of law and proportionality of the proposed system; its governance and oversight.

The researchers recommended that the proposed identity matching systems need to be scrutinised and monitored by Parliament through carefully drafted legislation and ongoing oversight.
