Data Protection Breakfast

Hub members and Allens Partners recently collaborated to host the Hub's Data Protection Breakfast, where speakers discussed the important role of data protection and governance in consumer marketing and business strategy, particularly in the aftermath of the Banking Royal Commission and the ACCC Digital Platforms Inquiry.

In a world where data protection and data governance are vital elements of both consumer marketing and business strategy, this workshop provided an opportunity to discuss where the demands from consumers and corporate governance obligations both converge and diverge.  The workshop brought together issues flowing from both the Banking Royal Commission and the ACCC Digital Platforms Inquiry, and was designed to cross corporate and consumer law in the rapidly evolving data governance area.

Leads of the Hub’s Data as a source of market power, Katharine Kemp and Rob Nicholls, were joined by data experts David Medine, lead on data protection and security for the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor; and Dr Pamela Hanrahan  Professor of Commercial Law and Regulation at the UNSW Business School.

Allens Partners involved in the event included Ian McGill, Jacqui Downes and Michael Morris.
